December 31, 2007 FtIECF-IV eU \
i
D,ivisico of Roclamation. Tech, iW Revision to the New Horizon Mine Permit No. C-81-009. This Technical
Revision is to Section 2.05.4(2)e. This is by Western Fads-Colorado (VVFQ in Nucla, CO.
Dear Sirs:
I am writing this letter as a foonai pwb.* to the application bmp Technical Revision to the
Neyui?Horizahs NYrntc Permit Na. G81-1108. Alsq the resit of their e!xLipermt. This
Technical Revision cove, the change in Success Standar& in Em iamW Pasture fiom a
standard to a reference areaa,
I have lived in Nucla most of my life and I am a landmoer in tlw ova affected by WFC. I am
f mlim with this area, the people who are la ndoumm , and ft agdo thuml uses of the land
in the area. Agriculture has been a main"y of thin area swe Nucla b :e a town and was,
in Ihct, the reason the town of Nucla evolved in 1906. Imd in this area has been and sell is
utilized for craps such as alfalfa, corn, wheat, and ooau6 etc. Some o£ land is used as irrigatcd
pesture3and, but this-is usually the iniexior land that is'not as well abed far crop production.
Even crop land, once harvested , is pastured. This is not the primary use of the acreage and
should not be how it is classified.
This is one reason for my protest.. The Morgan property which is. the property,
in question, is irrigated-fimmland. After inspection of the mvisiot, this
property along with Beasons, Lloyds, Johnsana, etc. are all to be classified
as DRYL.AND. This is unfit of. Just prior to the take over of the Sunshine
Corr of Morgans, We purchased 200 too of pr me Alfalfa Hay. The Morgarhs
have atways planted Aliiaifa and the Sunshir a Place was some of the prettiest
fields in the country. These rands have always beers inipwd crop lands with
very high yields.
I am objecting and would like to see all of this land in qumtkm put back thte
Wary it was or better prior to the leases. Feed is not overly plentiful in Nucla
and all of these prone fannlands should be put back as such. Dry land is
out of the question and there is wooer available to put these lands back.
Satre afthe Morgmn, property being mined has some of the best uVdwil
here.
Thank YOU,
5
U?',
