Provide all necessary tools, materials and equipment to successfully complete the
installation of casing pipe, as shown on the Drawings and specified in this Section, by
boring and jacking
4. The contractor shall be responsible for the final constructed product, and furnishing
the qualified labor and superintendence necessary for this boring and jacking
c onstruction
5. Boring and jacking under roadways and others structures or facilities shall not
interfere in any way with the normal operation of those facilities
6. Boring and jacking shall produce no upheaval, settlement, cracking, movement, or
distortion of existing improvements or existing natural surface features not shown to
be disturbed
B. Jacking and Receiving Pits, or Shafts
1. It is the Contractor's responsibility to locate and design jacking and receiving pits, or
shafts, at the ends of the boring and jacking alignment shown on the Drawings
2. Excavations and excavation support for jacking and receiving pits, or shafts, shall
meet the requirements of Section 312333 Trenching and Backfilling
3. Excavate jacking pit, or shaft, to line, depth, and grade required to install casing pipe
to line and grade shown on the Drawings
4. Shall have adequate length to provide room for jacking fram, jacking head, reaction
blocks, jacks, auger rig, and jacking pipe
5. Shall have sufficient width to provide ample working space on each side of jacking
frame
6. Construct floor to depth and grade such that invert, or centerline, of casing pipe, when
placed on guide frame, the elevation and slope shown for the completed casing pipe
C. Jacking and Auger Boring Equipment
1. Provide boring and jacking equipment appropriate to install casing pipe of size shown
on the Drawings, in location shown on the Drawings, and to line and grade shown on
the Drawings
2. Provide a horizontal boring machine capable of boring to the diameter and length
required to install the casing piping to the line and grade on the Drawings
3. Boring machine shall be capable of maintaining grade and alignment within tolerances
specified in this Section
4. Shall have hydraulic jacks of sufficient size to move casing pipe to casing pipe's
greatest distance fiom jacking pit, or shaft
5. Provide a jacking frame that applies uniform pressure over the entire wall area of
casing pipe to be jacked
6. Provide reaction blocks designed to carry the thrust of the jacks to the soil without
excessive soil deflection and in such a manner that there is no disturbance of adjacent
structures or utilities
33 05 23.16 - 4
