SECTION 33 05 23.16 <br />JACKING AND AUGER BORING <br />PART 1 — GENERAL <br />1.1 DESCRIPTION <br />A. Scope: Pipeline installation in casing pipe beneath highways and other structures installed <br />by jacking and auger boring. <br />1.2REFERENCES <br />A. American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) <br />B. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) <br />C. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) <br />1.3 DEFINITIONS <br />A. Jacking and Auger Boring: Method of installing casing pipe or conduit in soil by <br />simultaneously removing silt from the interior of casing pipe or conduit by an auger and <br />pushing the casing pipe or conduit into the soil. <br />B. Casing Pipe: Pipe installed by jacking and auger boring, tunneling, directional boring, or <br />other method which does not damage, displace, or disturb roads, railroads, structures, other <br />improvements or natural features above casing pipe. <br />C. Carrier Pipe: Pipe installed inside casing pipe to convey liquid, slurry, or gas. <br />1.4 SUBMITTALS <br />A. Shop Drawings and Product Data: U pon request from the Owner or En ig neer the <br />Contractor shall submit the following: <br />1. Submit a complete written description and drawing identifying details of the proposed <br />method of construction, equipment, procedures and sequence of operations to be <br />performed during construction. Items shall include, but not limited to, the following <br />a. Layout of jacking and receiving pits or shafts <br />b. Guidance system and method of controlling line and grade of casing pipe <br />c. Information on undercut or overcut, as appropriate to soil, and distance between <br />auger and carrier pipe <br />d. Proposed methods of monitoring surface subsidence <br />e. Contingency plans for failure to contain material on exterior of casing pipe <br />f. Details of muck removal, including equipment type, number, and disposal <br />location <br />g. Necessary permit approvals by the appropriate authority(s) <br />2. Submit technical specifications of the machine and trailing equipment (including any <br />modifications) and a copy of the manufacturer's operation manual for the machine <br />3. Submit Jacking and Auger Boring Contractor experience record and list of references <br />4. Submit a detailed construction scheduling plan comply with Section 013216, prior to <br />the pre - construction meeting <br />330523.16 -1 <br />
