Trapper Mine
March 2010 GMR Review
Review of March 2010 GMR
The March 2010 GMR reports data collected from the four new sites between October
15, 2009 and March 29, 2010. The Division's review comments are provided below.
Inclinometers
Inclinometer readings for the four sites show that little to no change occurred over the
previous 5- %2 months of monitoring. TMI concludes that there has been no significant
movement in the inclinometers during the monitoring period.
The Division does have one request. for each installation, two readings are reported,
e.g. INl IPI I-R and 1-R,2. Please provide a brief description of the inclinometer
installations (are the two sensors on different axes?) and significance of the two
separate readings.
Piezometers
Upon its review of the piezometer data, TMI states that variations in pressures at the
various locations have not been a concern at this time.
The Division has reviewed the piezometer data, and does have one item for TMI to
review. For piezometers installed in Stations 1, 2 and 3, the deeper sensor exhibits the
greater piezometric pressure. At Station 4, the L sensor (at a depth of 81.8 feet) shows 17
to 18 psi while the LM sensor (145.9-foot depth) reads approximately 0 psi. Is this zero
reading to be expected at this depth? LM sensors at Stations 1 and 2 are -25 psi and -19
psi, respectively.
Please review the data for the LM sensor at Station 4, and further explain the zero psi
reading if it is determined to be an accurate depiction of conditions at the location.
Resolution of Previous Items
With my review of TMI's September 2009 Report, I noted that data for benchmark 07-
GI6 BM, collected on 9/8/09, appeared to be anomalous when compared with prior
readings at that location. With the current GMR, TMI has provided a replacement page
with corrected data.
This item has been satisfactorily resolved.
This concludes my review of the March 2010 Geotechnical Monitoring Report for the
Trapper Mine. Please feel free to contact me with any questions that may arise.
