Wally Erickson
June 28, 2010
Page 7
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 8: Wildcat Mining has attached hereto as
Attachment 9 copies of revised Exhibits E-3 and E-7 showing the location of the portals,
Little Deadwood Gulch and the mill facility. Please note that these maps are based on
existing survey data, and that Wildcat Mining is in the process of re-surveying the May Day
Nos. 1, 2 and 3. Wildcat Mining, therefore, reserves the right to supplement its application
to include revised maps reflecting updated survey information.
9. The color shading of the permit areas on the maps interferes with detail viewing.
Please eliminate the color shading of the permit areas on the maps.
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 9: Wildcat Mining has attached hereto as
Attachment 9 copies of replacement maps making the clarification requested.
10. Underground openings, for ventilation purposes, are not discussed in the plan or
located on the map. If there are no underground openings for ventilation, other
than the portals, please state such. Otherwise, please discuss these openings in
the text and show their locations on the maps as required under Rule 6.3.3(1)(e).
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 10: The Chief Portal is serving as a man way for
the May Day No. 1 Mine. The portal is a pre-existing feature which was identified in the
1987 permit application as part of the affected land for the Lamb area. Specifically,
Wildcat Mining stated in its application: "The 1 Level adit and the Lamb will be maintained
only to provide for ventilation and second exits." In fact, documents created during the
1980s for permitting and compliance purposes reflected this use for the Chief Portal. See,
e.g., Attachment 10. The pre-existing Chief Portal was inadvertently not identified in
earlier iterations of Wildcat Mining's amended permit application. Wildcat Mining has
clarified the continued inclusion of the Chief Portal as part of the Lamb affected area in its
present amended permit application.
11. Section 6.3.3(1)(c) of the application appears to utilize the terms "waste rock
and "tailings" to describe the same materials. Waste rock is large particle
waste materials generated from the driving of adits and shafts as necessary to
access the ore body. Tailings are small particle waste materials, from the ore
body, resulting from the milling process after the mineral values have been
extracted. Please maintain this distinction throughout all portions of the
application.
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 11: All previous references and descriptions
utilizing the terms "tailings" and "waste rock" have been corrected and the term for this
mining application is "mined rock" since there will be no tailings (by definition) associated
with the May Day Mine operations. The corrected Exhibit C-Mine Plan is attached in
Attachment 11.
