Wally Erickson
June 28, 2010
Page 14
For ground water sampling: All parameters listed on Table I through 4 in CDPHE
Regulation 41-- Basic standards for Ground Water. The Operator may omit Total
Coliforms, Asbestos, Free Cyanide, Chlorophenol, Color, Corrosivity, Foaming
Agents, Odor, Phenol, Gross Alpha Particle Activity, and Beta/Photon Emitters.
These regulations are available at:
http: //www. cdphe. state. co. us/regulations/wgccregs/100241 wgccbasicstandardsforgr
oundwater.pdf
For surface water sampling: All parameters on Tables 1 through III in CDPHE
Regulation 31 -- Basic Standards and Methodologies for Surface Water. The
Operator may omit D. 0., Suspended Solids, Temperature, E. Coli, Total Residual
Chlorine, Free Cyanide, Sulfide, and Asbestos. The Operator can provide a total
chromium analysis rather than the separate analyses of the chromium species
Cr(III) and Cr(VI). To allow comparison of water quality data to aquatic life
standards, the analyses must also report either total hardness or separate analyses
of Calcium and Magnesium. These regulations are available at:
http: //www. cdphe. state. co. us/regulations/wgccregs/100231 wgccbasicstandardsforsu
rfacewater. pdf.
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 28-1: Surface water samples were collected by R
Squared, Inc. in May 2010. A copy of the report is attached. See Attachment 28,
Responses to Geochemistry Review of David Bird dated April 21, 2010, Appendix IA.
The samples were analyzed for the suite of the analytes in Tables I through III of The Basic
Standards and Methodologies for Surface Water, 5 CCR 1002-31 (Regulation No. 31) as
reported Tables 2, 3 and 4 of the attached report. Id. Groundwater samples are yet to be
collected at the site.
28-2. Most analytical reports included in the application (e.g., Attachments B-3 and C-4,
Table C-2, C-3, C-4) provide insufficient information pertaining to what the
samples represent, how they were collected, or the location on the site where they
were collected. DRMS needs a detailed description of where and how the samples
were collected, including a location plotted on a map and a photograph of the
sample. Also, please explain why sample "Type I-May Day" matrix is shown as
rock but concentrations are mg/L. Finally, the analyte lists need to be expanded to
be consistent with the recommendations of comment (1) above.
Response to Adequacy Issue No. 28-2: During May 2010, R Squared, Inc.
completed a sampling program of the following media:
Surface water as reported in a letter to Wildcat Mining in a letter dated May
28, 2010. Id.
• A composite mine rock sample collected from a stockpile located on the
bench near the May Day Portal No. 1 as reported to Wildcat Mining in a
letter dated June 24, 2010.
