Colowyo C-1981-019
15 June 10
Pg 3/12
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): - The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) contained water
approximately five feet below that top of the discharge pipe and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. No water was flowing into the pond from
the drainage above. There is some sediment at the inlet of the pond and Colowyo is
planning on cleaning this pond in the summer. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and stable and no erosional problems were noted. The emergency
spillway is a riprapped, open channel, which was stable. **See pictures at the end of
this report.**
- The Prospect Pond (NPDES 007A) contained water approximately six feet below the
top of the discharge pipe and was discharging a small amount through the weep
hole on the riser. There was a small amount of water flowing into the pond from the
Prospect watershed above. The discharge looked clear but the water in the pond
looked a bit murky. There was a small amount of sediment at the inlet of the pond,
but there did not appear to be as much sediment as in previous years. The pond
embankment was well vegetated and stable and no erosional problems were noted.
**See pictures at the end of this report.**
- The Section 28 Pond (NPDES 012A) was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond
embankment was fairly well vegetated and stable and no erosional problems were
noted at the time of the inspection. Last fall Colowyo reseeded portions of the
Section 28 Pond embankment where bare spots were noted. There is more
vegetation beginning to grow in these areas but it is still not great. The vegetative
growth on this embankment will continue to be monitored. The emergency spillway
is a riprapped, open channel. The spillway remains stable. Colowyo's weed sprayer
was at the Section 28 Pond spraying weeds while we were there. There did not
appear to be as many weeds as last year at the pond location. The topsoil stockpile
below the pond embankment was well vegetated and stable.
- The West Pit Pond (NPDES 008A) contained a small amount of water approximately
ten feet below the top of the discharge pipe and was not discharging at the time of
the inspection. There was a small amount of water in the presettling cell but that was
not discharging into the main pond. There was no inflow to the pond from the ditch
on the north side of the West Pit Fill. The pond embankment was well vegetated and
stable and no erosional problems were noted. The emergency spillway is a
riprapped, open channel. The spillway remains stable.
- The East Taylor Pond (NPDES 01 OA) contained water approximately eight feet below
the top of the discharge pipe and approximately two feet below the weep hole and
was not discharging at the time of the inspection. There was no water flowing into
the pond (from the Taylor Tributary Ditch) from the 2009 West Pit reclamation area in
the West Pit at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and stable and no erosional problems were noted. The emergency
spillway, which is a riprapped, open channel, remains stable. **See pictures at the
end of this report.**
