2007-2009 reporting years outside of the normal pH ranges for the sample set and none of the pH <br />values gives cause for concern. <br />Probable Hydrologic Consequences <br />Colowyo details the probable hydrologic consequences of mining in Permit Volume 1, Section <br />2.04.7 - Hydrology Information, beginning on page 2.04.7-26 and running through page 2.04.7- <br />33. This section details the anticipated impacts to both the surface water and the ground water in <br />and around the mine site. The PHC section of the permit also contains a discussion of studies <br />that were conducted locally and regionally to assess the hydrologic impacts of mining. <br />It can be seen from the above trend chart that in most cases the levels of the analytes in question <br />are increasing. This result is not unexpected. None of the analytes with increasing trends have <br />increased to a level (or even neared a level) that would be cause for concern. One of the <br />expected impacts, at least in the short term, of mining is an increase in the total dissolved solids <br />(TDS) and consequently the electric conductivity. These measurements are gross measures of <br />individual cations and anions in the water so it follows that the concentrations of the major <br />cations and anions would increase. <br />More specifically, The PHC section of the Colowyo permit states that, with regards to the ground <br />water, there will be a slight increase in the TDS, a slight increase in the electrical conductivity <br />and a slight decrease in the water elevation. The three sites with a larger data set (A-6, New <br />Good Springs and Gossard) are showing these slight upward trends in TDS and electrical <br />conductivity and a slight decrease in water elevation. These trends are also seen in the newer <br />wells A-7 and A-8 (although the data sets are very small and subject to more variability as a <br />result). With well MT-95-02 the trends seem to be reversed, with TDS and electrical <br />conductivity decreasing and water elevation increasing. This may be an anomaly, as there is <br />very limited data to make a conclusion on the well at this point.
