11. Section 6.3.3(1)(c) of the application appears to utilize the terms "waste rock" and "tailings" to
describe the same materials. Waste rock is large particle waste materials generated from the
driving of adits and shafts as necessary to access the ore body. Tailings are small particle waste
materials, from the ore body, resulting from the milling process after the mineral values have been
extracted. Please maintain this distinction throughout all portions of the application.
12. Section 6.3.3(1)(c) states, "No more that 5,000 cubic yards of non acid producing ore will be stored
on the Mayday No.1 bench...." Please note that such statements, in the approved permit, may
become enforceable permit conditions.
13. Section 6.3.3(1)(c) of AM-01 states, "No more than 25,000 tons of rock will be sampled or
developed from the No. 2 portal ... " Pursuant to,Rule 1.1(27), all 110(2) operations are restricted
to producing less than 70,000 tons of mineral, overburden, or combination thereof per calendar
year. This limitation on production applies to the entire site, each year. When providing
information on production, please specify tonnages of mineral (ore) and overburden (waste rock),
or clarify that the quantity includes both mineral and overburden and represents total production.
14. Section 6.3.3(1)(c) of AM=01 states, "Ventilation has been approved by the Mine and. Safety and
Health Administration and will be implemented in accordance with MSHA criteria and guidelines."
As noted previously, please show the underground openings for the ventilation facilities on the
maps and discuss these openings in the text.
15. Section 6.3.3(1)(f) of AM-01 states, "All areas of disturbances are pre-existing. Approximately 3
acres of the permit area have been disturbed as a result of previously milling and mining activities
(Exhibit E-2)." Pursuant to Rules 6.3.3(1) and 6.3.5(2)(f), please outline and label these existing-
disturbances on the appropriate maps.
16. Please clarify the contradiction between Section 6.3.3(1)(f), which indicates that the three acre
area of existing disturbances will not be enlarged, and Section 6.3.3(1)(e), which states that the
exiting bench at Level 2 will be extended. Please specify the dimension of the extended bench at
Level 2 as required by Rule 6.3.3(1)(f).
17. Section 6.3.3(1)(h) of AM-01 states, "The water source will be from the water that is present in the
underground workings at the Mayday-Idaho Mining complex and from the Idaho augmentation
ponds..." Please indentify all locations underground where such water sources exist. Additionally,
please clarify whether ground water will be pumped from these underground water sources and if
so, please describe and illustrate how this will occur.
18. The requirements of Rules 6.3.3(1)(i), 3.1.6, 3.1.7, 6.3.3(1)(k), 6.3.3(1)(1), and 6.3.3(1)(m) are not
fully addressed. Please provide the information requested in the attached memo from the
Division's Geochemist, David gird.
4
