(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1977-919
INSPECTION DATE: 5/-h/ln INSPECTOROS INITIALS: _$f(
OBSERVATIONS
The Division conducted an inspection of the site as part of sites to be inspected during
the fiscal years 2009-2010. The site is an old clay and sand and gravel operation located
approximately 4 miles NE of Bullha Colorado. Present during the inspection was Mr. Matt
Welte of Summit Brick and Tile. When the site was last inspected in 2000, there was no
problem noted. The financial warranty was calculated in 1997 with both the Division and
operator in agreement with the tasks and total warranty for the site.
The permit area covers approximately 48 acres of which 40 acres could be affected. The
pit was active at the time of the inspection. Large quantities of processed clay and sand
and gravel stockpiled material were noted scattered throughout the affected area. The
site consists of two storm water catchment basins. Both basins were found to be in good
repair. According to the current annual report and verified during the inspection, the
approximately 23.6 acres of the permit area is affected. The current warranty for the
site is $83,000.00.
The mining and reclamation plan approved limits the operator not to exceed 1570 lineal
feet of high wall and a maximum depth of these high walls not to exceed 22 feet. Even
though not measure at the time of the inspection, given the activity on site, the
Division would like the operator to submits technical revision, removing this limitation.
A few of the high walls appeared to have exceeded this limit. Even though past Division
the Division inspections never mentioned this mining limit the fact that they might have
been exceed is cited as a possible problem. The division requests the operator to submit
a detailed Technical Revision that shows the total length of these high walls, so the
Division can recalculate the warranty. No reclamation work was noted at the time of the
inspection. It is also suggested to the operator to clearly delineate the pre-law
disturbed area of this site.
The berm along the active mining area protecting the drainage was found to be in good
repair. There were a couple of empty oil drums and small fuel storage area that are not
being utilized that would need to be removed from site or place with in the existing
large properly sized fuel storage area located along the west side of the permit area.
Permit boundary markers and sign were properly posted.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: MR.MATT WELTE
OPERATOR: SUMMMIT BRICK AND TILE
STREET: P_C)_BOX 533
CITY/STATE/ZIP: PURR C) C-0 81009
cc: t CE
F BL
F FS,
F HW
F HMWMD (CH)
F
F SE
F WQCD (CH)
F OTHER
