sections, is provided on Table 2.05.3 -1, Major Equipment List. Surface
equipment is also included on this list which will be utilized in the
surface activities described later in this section. The surface equipment
will be engaged in moving coal, loading trucks, road and site
maintenance, supplies handling, and personnel transportation.
Table 2.05.3 -1
MAJOR EQUIPMENT LIST
Underground Equipment
Continuous Miner, mid - height profile (2)
Roof Bolters (2)
Shuttle Cars, electric powered (4)
Feeder Breaker, low profile (2)
Scooptram (2)
Power Center, 4160V (2)
Personnel Carrier, low profile (3)
Utility Tractor, low profile (2)
Belt Drives and associated equipment, 36 to 48 inch capacity
Submersible Pumps, 5 to 30 horsepower
Surface Equipment
Dozer, Cat D6 or equivalent (1)
Front -End Loader, Cat 980 or equivalent (2)
Backhoe (1)
Road Grader (1)
Water Truck, 3000 gallon capacity (1)
Utility /Maintenance Truck (1)
Utility Pickup Truck (2)
Forklift, 10 ton capacity (1)
Northfield will utilize a room and pillar mining method to develop and
extract coal from the Ocean Wave seam. This is a widely used coal
mining method which consists of mining a series of parallel tunnels
(entries), with cross - connecting entries (crosscuts) mined at regular
intervals between the entries. Between the entries and crosscuts
rectangular- shaped blocks of coal (pillars) are created that provide the
primary support of the mine roof. The majority of the pillars will later
be mined -out (retreat mined) in a specific sequence that ensures a
safe and productive method of maximizing recovery of the coal
reserves. Prior to mining, a detailed Roof Control Plan for development
and retreat mining operations will be submitted to and approved by
the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
2.05.3 -2 Revised 12/04/09, TR -01
k
