receipt of a determination of reclamation success. The remainder of
the light -use road and creek crossing structure will be reclaimed prior
to the end of the liability period if not approved for permanent
retention.
Reclamation Cost Estimate
A detailed estimate of the cost of reclamation of the proposed
operation must be based on an approved reclamation plan. Prior to
final approval of the permit, Northfield will include a detailed
reclamation cost estimate in an exhibit which will be the basis for the
reclamation bond surety for the mining operation. Additional bonding
information for the proposed Northfield Mine is included in Section 3.0
of the application.
Facilities Removal
After sealing mine openings, Northfield will begin demolition, salvage,
and removal of all mine facilities not approved for retention to support
the postmining use. Northfield expects that much of the equipment in
use at the mine such as conveyors, screening and crushing
components, hoppers, electrical installations, truck scale, and
prefabricated buildings will be salvaged and removed for profitable use
at other industrial sites. Equipment not salvaged will be dismantled,
and any buildings that are not salvaged will be demolished. The
salvaged equipment and buildings will be hauled from the site by the
operator or by salvage contractors.
During demolition activities, large equipment and structures will be cut
to sizes that can be safely moved by mobile equipment. Most of the
metal resulting from demolition will be sold to and removed from the
site by salvage contractors. The remaining metal scrap along with
concrete debris from slabs and foundations will be loaded and placed in
designated disposal areas. Northfield will obtain all necessary county
and landowner approvals prior to burying any demolition debris on the
site.
Areas proposed for demolition debris disposal will be within the slope
portal, ventilation shafts., and sections of the bench cut along the west
side of the facilities area. Concrete will be broken to the extent that it
can be moved for disposal. It will be placed and compacted to
minimize voids that may cause slumping of the overburden used to
cover the debris. All concrete and metal debris will covered by backfill
and topsoil materials totaling a minimum of two feet of suitable cover
material.
2.05.4 -4 Revised 12/04/09, TR -01
