The only surface disturbance anticipated will be the excavation of <br />five nominal 10 foot x 10 foot by 3 foot deep containment pits for cuttings and, if needed, air- <br />lifted water from the drill holes. The estimated disturbed area will be about 13ft X 18 ft to <br />accommodate the pit and stored material or 234 ft square per site, or 0.01 acres. The test pits <br />will be within the larger 30 ft x 65 ft proposed drill pads. For bonding calculations, the entire <br />1,950 square foot drill pad will be considered "disturbed" although this is highly unlikely. Total <br />surface disturbance then is estimated to be about 0.179 acres. Given the equipment and mud pit <br />constraints, a pad can be a more amorphous shape than indicated above as it is configured to fit <br />around minor topographic and vegetative features. In the event that large amounts of water are <br />encountered during drilling, the pits will be designed and maintained so that only decanted water <br />is allowed to escape to the surrounding area that is not an ephemeral drainage. <br />Some of the access trails and drill pads may require some cutting of brush, tree limbs and <br />perhaps the removal of a specific pifion or juniper tree. Cut material will be temporarily placed <br />in a pile or piles adjacent to the access trail or drill site, and then scattered back over the trail or <br />site during reclamation.
