recommended Indian ricegrass, needle-and-thread and cicer milkvetch be seeded. I could not
find a document in the DRMS file incorporating these additional species into the seed mix.
Regardless, cicer milkvetch is not recommended since it requires 15+ inches of annual
precipitation. Needle -and-thread is marginal at 7 -16 inches of precipitation. Indian ricegrass
is not a recommended species for the three mine sites since its annual precipitation range is 8-14
inches.
Shadscale is generally planted as tubelings (small plants planted by hand and watered for
establishment). It is not recommended except for small area plantings. Four-wing saltbush
requires at least 8 inches of annual precipitation so it is not recommended for the site. (The
average annual site precipitation is 6-10 inches.)
2.2 19 Road Pit Revised Seed Mix and Justification:
Please see Section 1.2 above.
3.0 Virginia Acres:
3.1 Virginia Acres Pit Existing Seed Mix:
SPECIES Precip. United committed to planting seven (7) cottonwoods on the south
side of the lake and six (6) locations where shrubs would be planted. DRMS requested United
commit to planting a greater density of trees and shrubs. The Division recommended United
plant Willow, Alder, Green Ash, and additional Cottonwoods. Other than willow sprigs planted
