The straw mulch was additionally secured by the application of a mulch
tackifier at the rate of 200 pounds per acre.
In early December the site received approximately 8 inches of snowfall, creating a snow cover that
persisted through the winter. The moisture from the snow, along with spring rains, has resulted in
good, early establishment of the seeded grasses.
Other site features:
There is an existing drainage with wetlands that bisects the site, running from northeast to southwest.
This area has remained undisturbed during mining and reclamation operations. No ponds were
created on the site.
During construction and mining operations, the City maintained a CDPHE Construction Stormwater
Discharge Permit. A sediment control feature that was used as part of the stormwater management
plan is a silt fence around the existing drainage. Now that the site meets the CDPHE's requirements for
final stabilization, the City has requested that this permit be inactivated. The silt fence will be removed
from the site when the CDPHE permit has been inactivated.
The mining operations did not create any tailing impoundments, underground mine openings, or
buildings. There are no waste rock dumps, ditches, or other mining features left on the site.
Prior to mining operations, several access roads were present on the site. The roads provided access
to an artesian well in the southeast corner of the site, as well as various areas of the site used by the
City Parks and Cemetery staff for temporary storage of landscape scrap or landscape materials.
250 NORTH 5TH STREET, GRAND JUNCTION.
