(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-197R-nZRS(-.
INSPECTION DATE: S/18.1 ]n INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: _MA(-
OBSERVATIONS
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division). Kenneth Morrison of Lincoln County was also present for the inspection. The George Ansley Pit is
located 16 miles east and 6 miles south of Karval, Colorado. The site is permitted for 9.5 acres and the post-
mining land use is general agriculture.
-L-1
The pP l* sign 1Y as posted at the wLL,L Lww to the Jlte and the affected area was clearly delmeated per Rule
3.1.12. Mining operations are currently taking place in the southeast corner of the permit area; the Operator has
nearly mined out the entire permit area. The Operator anticipates submitting a conversion application to change
the site from a 110c to a 112c Reclamation Permit. Topsoil has been salvaged and stockpiled in the southwest
corner of the site; the stockpile is stable and did not show any signs of erosion. The east, west, north, and
portions of the south pit walls have been graded.
During a previous inspection conducted on February 3, 2000 it was noted that stormwater runoff was eroding
the southern pit wall. The Operator filed Technical Revision -01 (TR-01) to address stormwater management.
The TR-01 revised the Reclamation Plan to allow for resloping of the southern pit wall. The southern pit wall
was stable at the time of the inspection and did not show any signs of erosion. The land to the south of the pit
slopes gently towards the pit and a natural wash directs stormwater runoff to the southwest corner of the pit.
Presently there is no vegetation on the pit slopes, which makes them susceptible to erosion if a precipitation
event occurs. The Operator should closely monitor the southwest corner of the pit for erosion. If erosion is
0
detected, a Technical Revision may be required to address the long term management of stormwater.
Field bindweed was noted on the west pit slope during the course of the inspection. Field bindweed is listed on
the Colorado Noxious Weed List; the presence of this noxious weed species requires implementation of weed
control methods pursuant to Rule 3.1.10(6). Please see Page 3 of this report for the required corrective action.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Kenneth Morrison
OPERATOR: Lincoln County
STREET: P_O- Rox 39
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Htjqc)(-0 80891
