/I/. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE <br /> Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during <br /> the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the <br /> facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br /> This was a complete inspection conducted by Tom Kaldenbach of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, <br /> Mining and Safety. Jim Jarvis represented the operator. With the operator's consent,this report was issued <br /> from the Denver office of DRMS. <br /> Mining was active at the King II Mine in the Southern Ute area north of the state permit area where <br /> OSM is the regulatory authority. Within the state permit area,mining has advanced to the second <br /> section west of the entries leading from the portals. <br /> The ground was dry and the entire site was accessible. Selected photos taken during the inspection are <br /> provided at the end of this report. <br /> Availability of Records <br /> The results of the records check are shown on the attached list. All required records were available. <br /> Signs and Markers <br /> King I -Mine i.d. signs and affected area markers were properly displayed. <br /> King II—A mine i.d. sign was on display at the mine's entrance on County Road 120. Although the <br /> surface disturbed area is marked, the operator's representative explained that additional markers have <br /> recently been delivered and will be installed soon. <br /> Roads <br /> King I -The mine entrance haul road was well maintained. <br /> i <br /> King II-The haul/access road was well maintained. <br /> Hydrologic Balance <br /> King I Ponds - Both ponds contained small pools of water and the ponds appeared to have adequate <br /> storage capacity. The inslopes of both ponds appeared stable. The outslope of the embankment of the <br /> west pond has been mulched and appeared structurally and erosionally stable. (The east pond is fully <br /> incised and does not have an embankment.) The pipe and culvert that serve as primary spillways of the <br /> ponds appeared to be clear. The open channel emergency spillways of both ponds appeared erosionally <br /> stable. Both ponds had graduated staffs in place for surveying sediment level. <br /> King II Pond—The pond was dry and appeared to have adequate storage capacity. The inslopes of <br /> both ponds appeared stable. The outslope of the embankment has been mulched and appeared stable. <br /> The primary and emergency spillway culverts appeared to be in good shape. A graduated staff was in <br /> place for surveying sediment level. <br /> I,I <br />
