8.1.7 Replaced Soil Resources Sampling Details Remediation Procedures and Renortinn
All Prime Farmland Lift A and B as well as single lift soils will be tested according to the
parameters outlined in Table 2.05A(2)(d) -1. Sample frequency is as shown in the table for each
aterial type. Any sample point that exceeds a criterion will have four additional samples
obtained from 150 feet away from the sample point along the grid lines analyzed for the
exceeded criterion If any of these four samples also exceed the same criterion additional
samples will be taken to delineate and define the area out of compliance and the suspect
material will be either a) removed and replaced with sufficient thickness of suitable material to
ensure that any remaining unsuitable material is at least 8 feet below the final surface or b
backfilled with additional suitable material so that the unsuitable material is at least 8 feet from
the final surface. If none of the additional samples exceed the criterion no further action will be
taken.
Prior to distribution of topsoil all graded mined areas (on which topsoil is to be applied) will be
sampled to confirm spoil suitability (see Overburden /Spoil Handling Plan for more details) The
density and physical characteristics of the replaced topsoil and upper spoil will be observed
Past experience has shown that ripping and chisel plowing will correct any excessive
compaction problems. The minimum sampling intensity shall be one hole per moo unit or five
acres whichever is less Depth measurements shall be taken at the same locations as the
original sample sites. Replacement depth information shall include separate thicknesses of Lift
A and Lift B for those areas (prime farmland) where the 2 lift replacement aoolies This topsoil
salvage and replacement depth information will be kept on file at the mine office and will be
submitted with the Annual Topsoil Balance /Spoil Quality Report Topsoil recovery depths will
be adjusted if warranted by the site conditions
(Revised October 2009) 2.05.4(2)(d) -23
