and there is no water available on this tract for the proper irrigation. Benson has used the water on
tracts east of 2700 Road in the permit area.
4) An area of 0.84 acres of 98A soil is shown on the north edge of the Lloyd property within the
permit boundary. The area is too small to be considered prime farmland and was never managed
as prime farmland in the past. For this reason, this particular tract of 0.84 acres is not considered
prime farmland. This was verified by the NRCS in 2008.
Since the 1998 vegetation and land use survey was a snapshot picture of the land uses at that
time, an attempt has been made to evaluate historic uses of the permit lands, particularly, the lands
of with prime farmland soils. Jim Boyd of the NRCS was able to the provide aerial photos of the site
from 1973 and 1993, which we registered into the CAD file and overlayed the land uses from the
1998 survey on these aerials. Maps 2.04.3 -2 shows this information with the aerial photo of the
site from 1993. Map 2.04.3 -3 shows the same information with the aerial photo from 1973. The
aerials are grainy black and white photos but do provide some useful information.
As is seen from Map 2.04.3 -2,in 1993, it appears that the Morgan fields in the permit area have
irrigated pasture on the east and west sides with an area in the middle that appears to be
productive alfalfa crop. As is seen from Map 2.04.3 -3,in 1973, it appears that the Morgan fields
in the permit area have irrigated alfalfa cropland on the east and west sides with an area in the
middle that appears to be irrigated pasture. Overall, it appears that considerably more land was
irrigated in the past than that which can be irrigated with 50 shares leased to WFC. The amount
of water shares applied to these lands in the past is unknown.
(Revised Sept 09) 2.04.3 -19
