Public Notice
Bowie Resources, LLC, P.O. Box 483, Paonia, CO, 81428, has submitted a complete application for a
technical revision to the Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety for its approved Bowie No. 2 Mine,
mining permit no. C-1996-083. The proposed revision will provide for the installation Hof a ventilation
shaft located west of Terror Creek. The proposed 18.5 foot finished diameter ventilation shaft is located
in the SW/4SE/4 of Section 5, Township 13 South, Range 91 West. The proposed shaft will be
excavated using a raise bore. Cuttings for the shaft excavation will drop into the mine workings and
permanently stored underground. Prior to raise boring, the perimeter of the shaft will be grouted to
minimize water infiltration. Grouting will be extensive in the collar area and in any water bearing
zones. The shaft will be lined with shotcrete. The raise boring operation will require a temporary
diesel powered electrical generator along with necessary fuel tanks. Access to the shaft site will be
from Steven's gulch road then south on Terror Creek Road. The shaft will be equipped with an
escape hoist and nitrogen generator housed in a Quonset hut. There are no plans at this time to
install a ventilation fan.
Most of the mine facilities are located north of Bowie Road near the town of Bowie, CO. A pump station,
three sediment ponds, a coal mine waste disposal area and unit train loadout are located south of Bowie
Road. The Fire Mountain Canal is located south of the mine facilities and north of the unit train loadout.
The North Fork of the Gunnison River is located south of the mine permit boundary. The proposed mine
permit area is located on the U.S. Geological Survey 7.5 minute Bowie Quadrangle map within the following
sections.
