Section 2.04.4 Cultural and Historic Resource Information
6. Section 2.04.4(1) was revised to include the 2004 Grand River Institute report. However, there appears
to be additional information in Section 2.04.4 of the Bowie No. 1 permit application that might apply
to the transferred permit area. Please add the applicable Bowie No. 1 cultural and historic resource
information to Section 2,04.4(1) of the Bowie No. 2 permit application. In addition, the Division
understands that the 2004 Grand River Institute report covers the east side of the transferred area since
BRL anticipates surface disturbance from the construction of gob vent boreholes. If surface
disturbances will occur on the west side of the proposed transferred area, BRL will need to cite the
applicable cultural and historic resource surveys or perform such a survey.
Section 2.04.5 General Description of Hydrology and Geology
7. Concerning revised page 2.04-12:
A. Please amend the list of maps in the second paragraph to include Map 8A.
B. In the 3rd paragraph, 4th line, the relative directions of the streams should read "west,
east, central and south respectively" rather than "west, central, east and south
respectfully". Please correct this sentence.
C. The following sentence (according to Map 9) should refer to the West Fork of Terror
Creek, rather than West Terror Creek.
D. The direction of flow of ephemeral drainages in the western portion of the permit area
is incorrectly described in the 5th sentence of the 3rd paragraph. Ephemeral drainages
instead flow to the east into Terror Creek and to the west into Stevens Gulch.
E. "Stephens Draw" heads the list of drainages that flow to the North Fork. This
drainage does not appear to be labeled on Map 9, but it does appear on other maps (5
and 6) as "Stevens Draw". Please correct the spelling as appropriate and label the
drainage as such on Map 9.
Section 2.04.6 Geology Description
8. Subsection (3)(a) describes the Stratigraphy of the region, and certain of the units listed appear to
coincide with units shown on Map 07 - Geology, although the unit abbreviations given on Map 07
do not appear to be provided in the text. The Division infers that the following correlations may
be likely:
Abbreviation Shown
on Ma 07 Stratigraphic Unit from Permit Text
Tw Wasatch Formation
Kmvo Ohio Creek Conglomerate
Kmvb Mesaverde Formation - Barren Member
Kmvc Mesaverde Formation - Coal Bearing Member
Kmvr Mesaverde Formation - Rollins Sandstone Member
2
