LITERATURE REVIEW (continued)
25. Known Cultural Resources
In the project area: GLO data from 1914 indicates the presence of one historic road named East Deep
Creek to Coal Creek and one historic trail known as the US Trail to Paonia. Both of these cultural
resources are located in the eastern half of the project area. The east end of the trail intersects the historic
road near Deep Creek. The US Trail to Paonia crosses portions of two drill pad survey parcels and intersects
two proposed access roads in Panel E5. The East Deep Creek to Coal Creek Road crosses through one drill
hole location in Panel E4.
In the general region (summarize): The Minnesota Ditch (5GN4948.1) and Minnesota Ditch Cabin
(5GN4806) are located immediately east of the project area. Three isolated finds, all consisting of prehistoric
artifacts, have been found just north of the project area. In surrounding areas, densities of sites and IFs are
very low.
26. Expected Results: The relocation of a historic road and trail, and the discovery of isolated artifacts and/or one
or two small sites relating to the prehistoric or historic periods was expected.
