Talvitie, P.E.
Subject: Bowie No. 2 Mine - Permit No. C-1996-083
Permit Revision No. 12 (PR-12) - West Mine Expansion
Adequacy Review - Geotechnical Subsidence Issues
COLORADO
D I V I S ION OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
Bill Ritter, Jr.
Governor
James B. Martin
Executive Director
As requested in your memo dated 3 March 2010, I have reviewed Bowie Resources LLC's
(BRL) application for PR-12, giving attention to geotechnical subsidence issues.
Section 2 04 5 General Description of Hydrology and Geolog
Page 2.04-12
• Please amend the list of maps in the second paragraph to include Map 8A
• In the 3rd paragraph, 4th line, the relative directions of the streams should read "west, east,
central and south respectively" rather than "west, central, east and south respectfully".
Please correct this sentence.
• The following sentence (according to Map 9) should refer to the West Fork of Terror Creek,
rather than West Terror Creek.
• The direction of flow of ephemeral drainages in the western portion of the permit area is
incorrectly described in the 5th sentence of the 3rd paragraph. Ephemeral drainages instead
flow to the east into Terror Creek and to the west into Stevens Gulch.
• "Stephens Draw" heads the list of drainages that flow to the North Fork. This drainage does
not appear to be labeled on Map 9, but it does appear on other maps (5 and 6) as "Stevens
Draw". Please correct the spelling as appropriate and label the drainage as such on Map 9.
Section 2.04.6 Geology Description
Subsection (3)(a) describes the Stratigraphy of the region, and certain of the units listed appear to
coincide with units shown on Map 07 - Geology, although the unit abbreviations given on Map
07 do not appear to be provided in the text. The Division infers that the following correlations
may be likely:
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
