Revegetation
The site is beginning to green up, especially south facing areas where the soil is warming.
This site used both broadcast seeding and hydro-seeding techniques, with hydro-seeding
used on the steepest slopes. This
will be the fourth growing season for
the hydro-seeded areas N-2, E-1,
and E-2 as shown on the 2008
Annual Reclamation Report map. Of
the 124 acres reseeded to-date,
about 116 acres have passed
through three growing seasons, with
some areas coming into the eighth
growing season in 2010. Successful
revegetation is key to controlling
long-term erosion at this site.
General observations seems to
indicate that rill and gully erosion has
been substantially reduced in areas
where vegetation has become
established.
4
