• Seedbed preparation and reseeding of the disturbance area with an approved reclamation
seed mixture
• Application of interim site stabilization measures to prevent excessive erosion and soil
loss until an effective vegetative cover can be reestablished
• Site maintenance and monitoring through the end of the reclamation liability period or
until reclamation liability and bond release are approved
During the reclamation process, PSCM will utilize many of the same environmental
protection/mitigation measures used in other active operations to prevent potential adverse
environmental impacts. Drainage and sediment will be controlled using temporary disturbed area
collection ditches and sedimentation ponds; permanent diversion ditches; and localized use, as
required, of alternative sediment control measures (berms, straw bales, silt fences, etc.) until
effective drainage can be reestablished. Any berms constructed to contain small drainage areas
will be revegetated and may be left in place if the vegetative cover is effective and the berm is
stable otherwise they will be reclaimed. Regrading operations will be limited to the existing
disturbance area and those areas immediately adjacent to the undisturbed areas necessary to
provide for effective blending of regraded surfaces with the surrounding terrain. Fugitive dust
emissions will be controlled during reclamation by periodic watering of roads and active
reclamation areas.
3. NRCS recommendations: A comprehensive description of vegetation resources has been
included in the SMCRA permit application.
a. plant types: There are 15 cover types located within the PSCM permit area. These
cover types reflect the varied topography, aspect, water and riparian sources, soils and
soil parent material, and in some cases variability of agricultural or management history
of the area.
Vegetation and Non-vegetation Cover Types within the Peabody Sage Creek lline Permit .area
Cover Type Acres Percentage of Permit Area
Sagebrush Grassland 2,528.1 24.9
Mountain Brush 2,245.7 22.1
Mined and Reclaimed Land 1,969.4 19.4
Improved Pasture/CRP 1,509.0 14.8
Sagebrush/Mountain Brush Mosaic 810.9 8.0
Cropland/Small Grains 375.7 3.7
Non-vegetation (road, water, and
disturbance) 201.9 2.0
Rock Outcrop 95.3 0.9
Mesic Drainage/Riparian 308.9 3.0
Western Wheatgrass/Alkali Sagebrush 62.7 0.6
Steep Mountain Brush 35.9 0.4
-15-
