Order I Sail 5nrvey, New Horizon Aline <br />DAR'VEY SERIES <br />LOCATION NM <br />Established Series <br />Rev. CRL- RCP -RJA -ACT <br />11197 <br />The Darvey series consists of very deep, well drained, moderately permeable soils <br />that formed in alluvlurn from calcareous sandstone, shale and limestone. These <br />sails are on hills, fan terraces, and valley fill. Slope ranges from 0 to 5 percent. <br />Mean annual precipitation is about 12 inches and mead annual air temperature is <br />about 55 degrees F. <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine - loamy, mixed, superactive, mesic Ustic Haplocalcids <br />TYPICAL PED+CN: Darvey loam - rangeland. (Colors are for dry soil unless <br />otherwise noted.) <br />A--g to 5 inches; dark brown (1 DYR V3) loam, dark brown (10YR 313) moist; weak <br />medium subangular blocky structure; hard, friable, sticky and slightly plastic; many <br />fine and few very fine roots; many fine interstitial pores; strongly effervescent; <br />moderately alkaline (pH 8.2); clear srnooth boundary. (3 to 10 inches thick) <br />Ew1 - -6 to 20 inches; brown (7.5YR 514) loam, dark brown (7.5YR 414) moist; <br />strong medium subangular blocky structure; hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly <br />plastic; common very fine and fine roots; many fine tubular pares; moderately <br />alkaline (pH 8.2); gradual smooth boundary. <br />Bw2 - -20 to 31 inches; brown (7.5YR 514) loam, dark Drown (7.5YR 414) rnoist; <br />moderate medium subangular blocky structure; hard, friable, slightly sticky and <br />slightly plastic; carnmun very fine roots; common fine tubular pares; strongly <br />effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 5.2); clear irregular boundary. (Combined <br />thickness of Bw horizons is 7 to 30 inches) <br />C3kl - -31 to 38 inches; pink (7.5YR 714) loam, light brown (7.5YR 614) moist; weak <br />medium subangular blocky structure; hard, friable, sticky and plastic; common very <br />fine roots; common fine tubular pores; strongly efFervescerit; many calcium <br />carbonate accumulations; moderately alkaline (pH 8.2); gradual irregular boundary. <br />(6 to 15 inches thick) <br />Bk2 --38 to 60 inches; light brown (7,SYR 014) loam, brawn (7.5YR 514) moist; <br />weak medium subangular blocky structure; hard, friable, slightly sticky and plastic; <br />strongly effervescent; many calciurn carbonate accumulations; moderately alkaline <br />(pH 8.2). <br />TYPE LOCATION: Lincoln County, New Mexico; about 1.4 miles southeast of the <br />old Owens Ranch headquarters on dirt road; 20 feet south of road; in the northeast <br />quarter, sec. 29, T. 5 S., R. 17 E. <br />Page 30 of 44 Date; 438;11198 <br />
