S
FRUITA/AMERICAN SHIELD PROJECT
Bond Revocation Permit#C-81-015
Closeout Report
December 11, 2000
I. PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Fruita Mine Project area is located 10 miles north of Fruita in Mesa County. Situated in the
Bookcliffs, the elevation of the work area is approximately 5,000 feet. The project consisted of one
mine site requiring reclamation work.
The area in which the project was located had been mined by underground methods creating an
overcast slope from a bench cut. Reclamation work included in this project was initiated as a result
from an estimated 100-year storm event that severely eroded an overcast slope that was previously
revegetated within another bond forfeiture project in 1996. The project consisted of the construction
of an erosionally stable drainage way through the bench and slope areas, the recontouring of the
main access road, and the revegetation of the regraded areas. Construction was performed under
two separate periods with the later period consisting of late fall reseeding. Paul Krabacher was the
Project Manager for the project.
Il. LANDOWNER CONSENT
Landowner notification was made through the Coal Section's Reclamation Specialist's
correspondence. Communication with the landowner included making him aware of the differing
reclamation technique of establishing a drainage through the overcast slope as a result of an
estimated 100 year flood rather than trying to manage the site's hydrology through run-on and run-
off control structures.
III.
