6. Other existing permit approvals: Notice of Intent to Explore Involving Removal o0 Tons or
Less of Coal (NOI) through the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (approval
pending), State Coal Exploration Permit through the State of Colorado, Board of Land
Commissioners (approval pending), Federal Coal Exploration License, Bureau of Land
Management.
Project Description/Narrative
Guidelines for submittal
1. Describe type of project: The Sage Creek Project involves drilling and coring of exploration holes
and subsequent reclamation of all exploration related disturbance. A total of 15 holes will be
drilled within the project area. The drillholes will range from 700 to 1,900 feet in depth.
2. Location and type of on-site facilities/structure: Except for the temporary setup and use of the
drill-rig, there will be no facilities/structures associated with the project.
3. Acreage and location of all disturbed Routt oRwh existing e fcoal min easiblee In the
unimproved ranch roads and deep trails will be used for drilling access
circumstance where direct access to a proposed drill-site is not possible using existing roads,
drilling equipment will be moved overland the short distance from the road to the drill-site without
constructing a new road. In accordance with Rules 2.02.2(2)(9 and 4.21.4(3)(a) of the Regulations
of the Colorado Mined Reclamation Board for Coal Mining vehicular travel on other than
established graded and surfaced roads will be limited to that absolutely necessary to conduct the
exploration activities. Travel will be confined to graded and surfaced roads during:periods when
excessive damage to vegetation or rutting of the land surface could result from.such :travel.
The maximum extent of the disturbance for each drill pad will be 100 x 100 feet (approximately
0.23 acres each). However, in an effort to minimize the disturbed footprint, if topographic
conditions allow, only the area were the drill rig sets up and needed mud pits will be disturbed.
This will result in a much smaller area of disturbance (approximately. 0.10 acres). Pad
construction will begin with removal of existing "A" and "B" horizon soil material for use in
reclaiming the pad - the material will be stripped and stockpiled in an area that will be
undisturbed and not subject to excessive wind or water erosion. After salvaging the available "A"
and "B" horizon material, minor grading and leveling will be completed to establish the drill pad
and accommodate the drilling and support equipment. Mud pits will be constructed immediately
adfacent to? the drill hole. Generally two or three pits are required, with typical.pit dimensions of
10 x 5 feet and 6 feet deep. All drilling fluids will be contained within the mud pits, and all drilling
supplies will be contained within the area of the drill pad. Any runoff and associated suspended
sediment from the drill pads will be controlled and contained by grading, and perimeter berms on
the downgradient side(s) of the drill pad, with release of any minor runoff accumulations in a
controlled manner through rock check-dams, silt fences, and/or straw bales or wattles, as
appropriate.
4. Type of equipment on site. Mobile drill-rig(s), water truck, support vehicles, and geophysical
logging truck.
5. Type of vehicles used for project: See response to Item 4.
02/24/10
3
Sage Creek Project - 2010 Program
