Culvert C-14, as shown on Map 13, Sediment and Surface Water Control Plan, East Portal
carries runoff from ditches D12 and D14 over the Purgatoire River and onto Pond 7. As
noted in last month's inspection, ground settlement resulted in a sag in this culvert to the
point that proper flow could be disrupted. The operator has now reinforced the sag and is
awaiting the delivery of a CMP culvert to replace the existing combination of steel pipe and
plastic culvert. Due to brittle cracks in the plastic pipe caused when the pipe was raised, all
storm runoff flow is currently sumped and pumped across the river as a precautionary
measure until the replacement culvert installation is completed.
Clean water runoff from the slopes to the
south is diverted in clean water diversion
ditches. Heavy snow cover precluded any
detailed inspection of these ditches, as shown
at right.
Pond 001 is the mine water discharge pond,
located immediately north of the mine office.
Water is pumped on a periodic basis from a
borehole located northeast of the industrial
building. The mine was not being pumped
during the inspection, but was discharging ti -
from pumping within the last 48 hours prior to
4
