Colowyo C-1981-019
24 Mar 10
Pg 5/6 ;
Backfilling and Grading (cont.): - Based on the above chart, Colowyo is required to
complete approximately 842.5 acres of backfilling and gradling operations by the
end of calendar year 2012. To date Colowyo has completed approximately 87.3
acres of backfilling and grading (in 2009) and is proposing to complete
approximately 135.4 acres of backfilling and grading proposed for 2010. This gives a
total of approximately 222.7 acres of backfilling and grading that will be completed
through 2010. This will leave approximately 619.8 acres of backfilling and grading to
be completed in 2011 and 2012. Based on the current pace; of backfilling and
grading operations, Colowyo will be required to complete approximately 620 acres
of backfilling in two years. Colowyo needs to review their reclamation plan
(particularly Map 29 - Spoil Grading) and their currently planned backfilling and
grading and determine exactly how they will meet the required grading schedule.
Colowyo will probably need to backfill additional acres in 2010 to meet their
approved backfilling and grading schedule. Colowyo is reminded that the
backfilling and grading plan approved in June 2009 with Technical Revision 80 (Map
29) is not a flexible plan and the approximately 842.5 acres proposed for backfilling
and grading will need to be completed by the end of 2012. In addition, all areas
that are backfilled and graded must have the topsoil replaced and be reseeded in
the same reclamation season.
The acreage information on the left side of the above chart (East Pit Years and West
Pit Years) was digitized from Map 29, the 2009 acreage data for both the East Pit and
West Pit (2009-2010 Reclamation) was DRMS field data, the 2010 West Pit acreage
data (2009-2010 Reclamation) is based on discussions with Colowyo staff and the
2010 East Pit acreage data (2009-2010 Reclamation) is digitized from Map 29,
General Mine Plan Compliance: - The 101 dragline was back on the edge of the East
Pit highwall. No additional reclamation has been completed on the East Pit highwall
and Colowyo has shut off power to the 101 .
- The 102 dragline was performing pull-back work in the West Pit. It appears as
though the 102 has completed the backfilling operations in the Taylor Draw. Please
see the "Backfilling and Grading" section for more detail.
- The 103 dragline was in the West Pit removing overburden.
- The 114 shovel operation was removing A-Seam overburden at the upper edge of
the South Taylor box-cut. **See pictures at the end of this report.**
- The 115 excavator was removing C-Seam overburden from the South Taylor box-
cut. **See pictures at the end of this report.**
Excess Spoil: - The current dump for the South Taylor Pit is the Section 16 Pit final cut
area. Colowyo is currently filling the final cut of the Section 16 Pit with the
overburden material. The material is being end dumped in approximately 50-foot
lifts. The material is then being pushed out with a D11 dozer. Colowyo is currently
working on the third lift and has filled approximately 90% of the final cut with at least
one lift. The current elevation of the Section 16 Pit (the third and active lift) is 8,100'
(at 335429N, 1348906E; state plane 1927 datum).
