el'
EXHIBIT D - Mining Plan Amendment ? q 9 7 ""J , i KU " "
The Lyons Pit #2 - Permit #M-80--248, Revision No. CN-01, was
approved in 1991 for a total of 30.28 acres of affected area. In
April of 1996 a request was made for a reclamation responsibility
release or. 10.7 acres of reclaimed land on the western end of the
.permit area, leaving 20.91 active acres under this permit.
The entire area of the Lyons Pit ##2 has been mined out, and
the purpose of this amendment is to enlarge the, affected area to
the east in the amount of 20 additional acres (shown on Exhibits
"B" & "C".) for a total of 40.91 active acres.
The general information in the existing Mining Plan -
Exhibit "D" - is incorporated into this Amendment. The new
information follows:
The enlargement area is similar in gravel deposits to the
mined-out property, except that the overburden is thicker. The
thickness of the topsoil is from 10" to 14", the average
overburden removal will be around S feet, the mineable working
face will be around 12 feet (including 2 feet of overburden and
10 feet of gravel. The total excavation depth is estimated not
to exceed 21 feet.
The bedrock is of the Lewis Shale formation, dipping
slightly to the north-east. Because Moffat County will be mining
"down--dip", the surface drainage is expected to collect along the
north-eastern face of the pit. For this reason, the crews will,
first, :nine-out the NW quadrant of the "Mining zone", shown on
Exhibit "C", to the ephemeral drainage shown on the map. The
obvious purpose is to provide a drainage system for all of the
affected area.
Topsoil and overburden will be stored separately in the
areas designated for them on Exhibit "C". The roadbase materials
produced by crushing and screening will be stored in the mined-
out portion of the existing excavation. Signs and stabilization
methods will be addressed according to the original mining plan.
*4 R I A-1
