6.4.4 Exhibit D - Mining Plan
Winter rye Cool 20-35
Triticale Cool 25-40
The initial excavation for any given mining cell will occur in areas designated for
backfilling. This will allow for direct replacement of overburden as stripping
occurs in the next adjacent area. The initial excavation for some cells will require
stockpiling of overburden. The maximum volume of overburden stockpile will not
exceed 150,000 yd3 at any one time. Stockpiles associated with processing and
the HMA plant (finished product and pit run) will occur in addition to the
overburden stockpiles and at larger volumes,(150,000 yd3 - 250,000 yd 3).
Water Diversions and Impoundments
Trenches will be excavated at the toe of each cell wall to expose groundwater,
which will be pumped to a sediment pond prior to discharging to the Big
Thompson River.
The existing irrigation system is owned by Coulson Excavating Co, Inc. and
consists of surface irrigation pipe for sprinkler irrigation. The piping will be
disassembled prior to mining and will not be re-installed after mining is complete.
Timetable
The mine plan is expected to generally follow Table 6.4.4-2, however the
timetable may vary according to market conditions.
Table 6.4.4-2 - Approximate Mining Timetable
Phase/Cell Overburden to
be Removed Acres to be
Disturbed Duration
1/1 67,000 yd -7 acres -1.0 years
1/2 961000 yd -10 acres -1.5 years
2/1 96,000 yd -10 acres -1.3 years
2/2 269,000 yd -28 acres -3.5 years
2/3 38,000 yd -4 -0.5 years
2/4 154,000 yd -16 -2.0 years
2/5 961000 yd -10 -1.3 years
TOTAL 816,000 yd -85 acres total -11.1 years
Nature of the Overburden, Gravel Deposit, and Underlying Stratum
Overburden within Phase 1 and Phase 2 consists of fine sand and silt,
specifically Table Mountain Loam, Table Mountain Saline, and Nunn Clay-Loam
