Mayday Mine and Mill Site, Wildcat Mining Corporation, Original 110(2) Permit
Exhibit D
If acid - forming or toxic - producing materials are encountered during mining or reclamation activities,
Wildcat will isolate the material above the water table, within the old mine workings or encapsulate the
material. The material will be capped with two feet of suitable material, top soiled and revegetated as
outlined above. (Rule 3.1.5(5))
Topsoil from historical mining activities was not salvaged because the topsoil is thin and because of the
inability to effectively utilize topsoil salvaging equipment on the steep slope. Disturbed areas will be
reclaimed and to the extent possible scarified, mulched, top soiled and revegetated). Available topsoil or
suitable subsoil will be applied at a depth of six inches when available. Soil tests will be conducted
before seeding to confirm that fertilizers are not required to meet reclamation obligations. It is not
anticipated that any soil amendments or fertilizer will be required. (Rule 6.3.4 (1) (c))
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recommends (Rule 3.1.10 (1)) 6.5 pounds (lbs) pure
live seed pounds per acre for reclamation purposes (Attachment D -1). (Rule 3.1.10) As broadcast seeding
methods will be used due of the steepness of the site, the seeding rate will be doubled to 13.0 pure live
seed pounds per acre. (Rule 3.1.10(5)) The most desirable time for seeding is very late fall so the
anticipated seeding will occur in October of each year. Mulching will be used per requirements of the
USDA due to the steepness of the area. The area seeded will be mulched with 4,000 lb /acre of native
grass, hay or straw. Access by wildlife and people will be limited until new vegetation is established.
Irrigation and soil amendments will not be applied to reclaimed areas not specifically identified within
the Mayday reclamation permit. Noxious weeds will be eradicated from the revegetated area using
approved NRCS methods and certified personnel as approved by the Division. (Rule 6.3.4 (1)(2) and Rule
3.1.10(6)) Engleman spruce, Ponderosa Pine and Lodgepole Pine seedlings will be planted at 10 foot
centers on appropriate locations with the terraces on the mine and mill site.
Measures taken to minimize disturbance to the hydrologic balance, to prevent off -site impacts, to provide
for stable configuration consistent with the proposed future land use have been incorporated into the
scoping and design of reclamation activities. The anticipated future land use for the Mine and Mill site is
grazing (domestic and wildlife) and/ or recreational use (Rule 3.1.1).
Reclamation Costs (Rule 6.3.4(2)
The estimated costs to reclaim the Mayday and Mill site and the pre- existing access road are summarized
in Attachment D -2.
