(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1978-0157
INSPECTION DATE: 2117/1 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: MAC
OBSERVATIONS
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division). Kenneth Morrison of Lincoln County was also present for the inspection. The Gaede Pit is located
approximately 2 miles northeast of Limon, Colorado. The site is permitted for 9.9 acres and the post mining
land use is general agriculture.
The permit sign was posted at the entrance to the site: the boundary of the affected area was clearly delineated
along the east side of the site, but no boundary markers could be located on the west end of the site. This has
been cited as a problem and will require corrective action by the Operator; please see Page 3 of this report for
the required corrective action.
No mining was taking place during the inspection and no equipment was present. Material is being removed
from a hillside and is creating a generally level topography; mining is progressing from east to west. The
southern pit wall has been graded to 3H: IV and natural vegetation has begun to establish. However, erosion is
forming rills along the entire length of the slope. This has been cited as a problem and will require corrective
action by the Operator; please see Page 3 of this report for the required corrective action.
The Mining Plan states that 3-4 inches of topsoil will be salvaged for use in reclamation; no topsoil stockpiles
were observed during the inspection. The Operator indicated that topsoil for this site will need to be imported
for reclamation. The lack of salvaged topsoil at this site has been cited as a problem and will require corrective
action by the Operator; please see Page 3 of this report for the required corrective action.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Kenneth Morrison
OPERATOR: Lincoln County
STREET: 103 3rd AvPrn jP
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Hug n.
