5. Surface Mine Equipment
The following equipment may be used for the surface mining of the Last Chance Mine area.
• Dozer - Cat D5M
Loader - Cat 938 H
• Ore Buggy (5 yard - as needed)
• Flat-Bed Truck with 350 gal water tank,
• Pickup Truck with fuel tank, 3/4 ton
• Additionally, the exploratory drilling
1 ton
operations will use the following mobile
equipment:
• 10 wheel, self leveling drill rig equipped for air rotary drilling
• A truck mounted compressor to supplement air for the drilling rig if needed
• A water truck equipped with hoses and road watering sprays to mitigate dust (and assist
in fire fighting if needed)
• Pickup truck with fuel tank and hole plugging supplies, 3/4 ton
Notes:
(a) Highway ore-hauling trucks will be provided by a contractor on an as needed basis.
(b) Miscellaneous rental and contract equipment will be brought to the Last Chance Mine site as
needed, including surveying, welding, drilling, material delivery trucks, and concrete and gravel
trucks.
6. Air Pollution Emission
The mining activities at the Last Chance Mine were reviewed and annual emissions calculated
for NOx, CO and particulate for each of the sources. The sources were identified as heavy
equipment, excavation / material transfer, and haul road activities. Through this evaluation it
was determined that no Air Pollution Emission Notice (APEN) was required as the sum of
sources did not exceed five tons of emissions for the criteria pollutants.
As detailed in Appendix H, the heavy equipment was calculated to emit 0.81 tons of NOx, 0.39
tons of CO, and 0.03 tons of particulate annually. The construction and materials handling will
emit 0.0064 tons of PMIO and 0.00096 tons of PM2_5. The haul road activities will emit 0.094
tons of PMio and 0.014 tons of PM2.5. Total emissions were estimated at 1.35 tons per year.
7. Surface Drainage Control Structures
The surface area to be disturbed in the mine staging/facilities area covers about 2.46 acres. The
limited available topsoil will be stockpiled for reclamation. The current waste rock dump is
located about 200 feet southwest of the mine portal and covers about 0.3 acres. This dump will
grow south and westward with expanding mine operations and may cover as much as 0.68 acres.
A berm will be constructed on the south side of the Waste Rock Area to prevent run-on from the
rising slope to the south, although most of the water will be diverted by ditches on both sides of
Montrose County Road DD 16. A berm will be constructed around the south and east perimeter
Last Chance Mine -April 2009
D-4
