The existing mine access road connects county road DD-16 to the existing haul road and
stockpiles. The road is about 15 feet wide and 500 feet long.
Once operations at the mine are complete, a reclamation plan will be developed which is
consistent with CDPHE stormwater, DBMS, and BLM, requirements.
2) Materials handling and spill prevention: The temporary ore stockpile and loading area are
designed for total containment by returning precipitation from a 100-year 24-hour event back into
abandoned workings within the mine. Furthermore, the ore will be transported to the mill every
day so its exposure to the effects of weathering will be minimal.
Limited volumes of toxic chemicals (lubricants, anti-freeze, grease, etc.) for vehicles and
equipment will be stored in approved containers in the locked storage/office trailer. Mining
explosives will be stored in a MSHA approved underground "powder magazine". Nuvemco will
be responsible for obtaining permits and for proper management of these materials. All fuels and
lubricants used in vehicles on location will be transported to the site as needed by mine personnel.
c. Preventive Maintenance
Periodic inspections will reveal the need for preventive maintenance of stormwater BMPs. The
inspection schedule is discussed below in Section 5.
Silt fences and wattles must be inspected regularly and following significant rainfall events to
determine the need for repair or replacement. Accumulated sediment must be removed from
these devices to maintain their effectiveness during future stormwater runoff events. Periodic
removal of sediment from the sediment pond as well as sediment traps and check dams/rock
berms will also be required.
Diversion berms and ditches will need to be regularly inspected and repaired as needed so that
they continue to function effectively.
d Good Housekeeping
The following practices will be adopted to ensure that the site is maintained in a neat and orderly
condition:
• Vehicles and equipment will be inspected for drips and leaks and repaired as needed.
• Adequate closed containers will be provided for garbage which will be removed on a
regular basis to an approved landfill. Hazardous and petroleum wastes will be stored
separately and hauled to an approved facility as soon as possible.
• A portable toilet will be located near the office trailer. It will be maintained and emptied
on a regular schedule by a sanitary waste disposal company.
• Spilled materials will be cleaned up as soon as practical following their discovery.
Absorbent pads and booms will be kept on site for this purpose. Cleaned up substances
and materials used for clean up will be placed in a proper receptacle and hauled to an
approved disposal facility as soon as possible.
• No abandoned machinery or parts will be left at the site.
• Volumes of hazardous materials and petroleum products stored on site will be minimized
so that only those quantities needed are kept on site.
• Oil changes, lubrication, adding antifreeze and other repairs for haul buggies, a front-end
loader, and other equipment will be performed in a designated parking area adjacent to
the office trailer. Drip pans, tarps, and absorbent pads will be used to minimize the risk
5
