It formed in mixed alluvium and the areas are elongated
ranging from 20 to 200 acres. Typical composition of the top 17 inches is grayish brown
fine sand. The permeability is moderately rapid, available water holding capacity is
moderate, runoff is slow, and water erosion is slight. Erosion from wind is severe.
Paoli fine sandy loam is subject to rare periods of very brief flooding in spring and early
summer. The effective rooting depth is 60 inches and more. The map unit is in capability
subclass Ile if irrigated and IIIe for non-irrigated. The range site is Overflow.
The Stoneham loam 6 - 9% Slope is deep and well drained on gentle rolling areas on
plains. It formed from eolian sediment with irregular shapes of 20 to 200 acres. Typical
composition of the top 11 inches is grayish brown clay loam. The permeability is
moderate with high water holding capacity. Runoff is rapid, water erosion is high.
Erosion from wind is moderate and the effective rooting depth is 60 inches and more.
Stoneham loam is in the capability subclass of VIe for both irrigated and non-irrigated.
The range site is Loamy Plains.
The Platner loam is a deep well drained soil on smooth plains. It formed in alluvium and
is irregular shaped with areas ranging from 40 to 400 acres. The typical composition in
the top 10 inches is grayish brown loam. The permeability is slow, water holding capacity
is high, runoff is slow and water erosion is moderate. Erosion from wind is moderate and
the effective rooting depth is 60 inches and more. Platner loam is in the capability
subclass of Ile for irrigated and IIIc non-irrigated. The range site is Loamy Plains.
The site is in the Major Land Resource Area 72 Central High Tableland Northern Area.
RECLAMATION PROCEDURES
Prior to excavation remove the top 12 inches of soil and stockpile it at a nearby site.
The topsoil will be used after the mining operation is complete for reclamation purposes.
At the completion of the mining operation all vertical excavated areas and other steep
slopes shall be shaped to a minimum of a 3:1 slope or less and smoothed. The stockpiled
top soil shall be spread uniformly over the area to have sufficient depth to support the
vegetative cover for this site.
Obtain a soil sample of the site and apply manure or compost at the recommendations of
a crop advisor. Incorporate the manure/compost to a depth of 4 inches.
9
Helping People Help the Land
An Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer
