STORMWATER MANAGEN. J PLAN 2/20/09
Maryland Creek Ranch
5. STORMWATER QUALITY CONTROLS (continued)
5.C. EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROLS (BMPs)
Topsoil and overburden are stripped off each section to be mined and placed as berms along
the north perimeter and southeast corner of the mining area as shown on the site map, and at
various other locations within the mining boundary. The topsoil and overburden berms are
seeded and revegetated, as soon as practicable after placement.
The entire area to be mined will be below the upper elevation of the original ground, so any
stormwater runoff within the pit will stay in the pit. Runoff from raw material and product
stockpiles, equipment storage and maintenance areas, employee parking, processing area and
equipment wash area will collect in various settling ponds and retention/detention areas.
Stormwater runoff collected in these areas will have sufficient residence time to allow for settling
of sediment.
5.D. OTHER POLLUTION PREVENTION MEASURES
Other pollution prevention measures include: (1) minimizing the use of chlorinated solvents and
replacing with non-hazardous solvents, (2) encouraging equipment operators to maintain traffic
on established roads and trails, rather than disturbing new areas, and (3) grading and
compaction of roads to minimize loose materials that can either go air-borne or get into road
runoff.
S.E. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Mobile equipment is monitored for petroleum leakage on both pre- and post-trip inspections.
Any deficiencies are noted on the inspection form, contained, and/or repaired as soon as
possible. The routine preventive maintenance program used by Everist will reduce the
likelihood of inadvertent petroleum leaks and discharges reaching stormwater accumulation and
runoff areas.
5.F. GOOD HOUSEKEEPING
It is the policy of Everist to maintain all work areas in an orderly manner. Trash and
miscellaneous debris that could co-mingle with stormwater runoff is minimized or eliminated as
part of an ongoing effort.
S.G. IDENTIFICATION OF DISCHARGES OTHER THAN STORMWATER
The site is evaluated for the presence of discharges other than stormwater, such as mine
drainage, sanitary waste, or process water. There are no mine shafts, spoil piles, or springs at
this site. At this time, there are no stormwater structural conveyance systems.
All equipment wash waters, sand and gravel wash water, and process water is directed toward
settling ponds or other types of retention/detention areas within the processing area. All
stormwater and water from material stockpiles within the pit area are directed back into the pit.
There is a septic system installed at the office, and port-a-potties exist near the processing area
and shop/trailer. All sanitary facilities are regularly monitored and will be pumped and/or
