h. Water for this project will be obtained from the Tierra Piedra River via water
rights of the landowners. Water will be used for occasional watering of haul
roads and ramp areas. It is estimated that 1000-2000 gallons of water per day
may be utilized.
i. Groundwater will be encountered while excavating the gravel pit. Excavation
will generally be "wet" with backhoe or other method of extracting material from
at or below the water level. Minimal dewatering is anticipated, due to expected
infiltration capacity of remaining materials. When de-watering becomes
necessary, pumps will remove excess water from the pit. This water will be used
for irrigation of the adjacent hay field. Due to the flat topography, none of this
irrigation water will reach the river as surface flow.
j. Use of water will be metered to ensure that landowners comply with water rights
of 5 cubic feet of water per second of time.
k. No toxic producing materials will be utilized for mining.
1. A stable configuration or hydrologic balance will be achieved by a 3:1 average
gradient of excavated slopes of the pit faces on all sides. Surface water will
infiltrate into the terrace alluvial deposits at the edge of the pit and is presumed to
flow into the Piedra River as subsurface flows. Stormwater BMPs will be utilized
to prevent any runoff affecting off-site locations.
m. The deposit will be processed by a portable screener and a portable crusher as
excavations progress from northwest to southeast. Material will be handled by a
bulldozer and front-end loader and transported to temporary stockpiles and load
trucks. No chemicals will be utilized.
n. The primary and secondary commodities to be mined are gravel and sand for road
base and fill material.
o. Topsoil will be the only incidental commodity generated by the proposed
operation. Topsoil will be used for reclamation in the project area and will be
utilized at other locations on the property/ranch.
p. No explosives will be utilized.
