This substitute water supply plan
("SWSP") is a combined replacement plan that identifies replacement sources to cover depletions
from two mine sites along the South Platte River. The required fee of $257 for the Holton Pit and
$1,593 for the Morton Lakes Pit has been submitted (receipt no. 3643781).
Plan Operation
The following table lists the sites that are involved in this combined replacement plan:
TABLE A - COMBINED REPLACEMENT PLAN SITES
Previous Well
Site Name DRMS # Approval Permit Exposed Surface (acres)
No.
Holton Pit 007-008 03/27/2008 67742-F 0
1-acre in the dewatering trench
Morton Lakes Pit M2008-082 New Plan (beginning July 2011)
This combined plan seeks to replace depletions from mining at the Holton Pit and Morton Pit.
These two sites will be mined in seven combined stages. Stages 1 and 2 will intercept groundwater
and will be dewatered to allow dry mining. Dewatering will occur directly back to the South Platte
River. Slurry walls will be constructed around stages three to seven prior to the beginning of mining.
Construction of the slurry wall is not anticipated until at least 2012. The Applicant is expected to begin
stage 1 of the mining operation in July 2011 only at the Morton Pit.
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303-866-3581 • Fax: 303-866-3589
www.watonstote.co.us
