• Conveyor BC-103 transports coal from the rotary breaker to the raw coal silos. Vibrating feeders
reclaim coal from the raw coal silos and load it onto Conveyors BC-105 and BC-106 which transport
coal to the preparation plant. Conveyor BC-108 transports coal from the preparation plant to the
sampling building. Conveyor BC-107 conveys refuse to the refuse surge hopper for loading onto
haul trucks. These conveyors are shown on Map 15.
Because of the anticipated reliability of the equipment, no provisions are made for emergency
stockpiling at the mine mouth if the intro-plant conveyor system breaks down. In such a situation, all
mine production will be stopped.
The surge bin is equipped with a trash grizzly that intercepts and removes large pieces of rock or
trash that might clog the bin or damage the conveyor. This refuse is collected in a trash bin and
disposed of as discussed in the section entitled "Waste Transportation and Disposal Facilities".
All of the conveyors, except the plant reject conveyor, are in enclosed galleries or are partially
covered to provide protection from precipitation, prevent fugitive dust, and improve maintenance
access during winter months. A belt wiper is provided at the discharge end to remove matedal
adhering to the belt. Transfer points are enclosed to minimize dust emissions. The planf reject
conveyor serves to recycle reject material through the plant during periods of low production. It is
not covered due to its infrequent use, consistent with existing air quality permits.
• Conveyors will be dismantled and removed or buried on site after mine operations cease.
Foundations will be removed or demolished to below ground line and the area around them
regraded and revegetated as required.
IV.C.2 Rotary Breaker A rotary breaker is located at the end of the conveyor from the 150 ton
surge bin. The breaker reduces the 6"x0 ROM coal to a predetermined size of 4"x0. The breaker
also removes large pieces of rock, wood, and tramp metal. This debris is collected in a trash bin
and disposed of as discussed in the section entitled "Waste Transportation and Disposal Facilities".
IY.C.3 Storage Silos From the breaker, ROM coal is conveyed to two raw coal storage silos.
Each silo is 70 feet in diameter, 150 feet high and capable of storing 10,000 tons of coal. The silos
are reinforced concrete and are supported on a poured reinforced concrete block.
ROM coal is reclaimed from the silos by vibrating feeders. A conveyor transports coal to the
preparation plant.
IV.C.4 Temoorarv Storage During the early stages of the coal mine, ROM coal was stored at the
D Portal site. A diverter gate was (and is) provided at the top of the 150-ton surge bin to divert the
ROM coal through a chute to the ground. The coal was then moved by front-end loaders and trucks
• Pemtd Rev. 4 (Zi/2tJr12J ft/-S
