///. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Tom Kaldenbach of the Colorado Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety. James Counts represented the operator. With the operator's consent, this report was
issued from the Denver office of DRMS.
The four portals of the King I Mine have been sealed with a shot-crete type of material a short distance
into each portal from the surface opening. Mining was active at the King II Mine in the second section
west of the entries leading from the portals. Areas other that had not been plowed were covered with
more than one foot of snow. Selected photos taken during the inspection are provided at the end of this
report.
Availability of Records
The results of the records check are shown on the attached list. All required records were available.
Sims and Markers
King I - Mine i.d. signs and affected area markers were properly displayed.
King II - A mine i.d. sign was on display at the mine's entrance on County Road 120.
Roads
King I - The mine entrance haul road was well maintained.
King II - The haul/access road was well maintained.
Hydrologic Balance
King I Ponds - The east and west ponds were frozen and covered with snow and at most contained
small pools of water several feet below the principal spillway discharge elevations. Sediment level
markers (marked staffs) were in place. Embankments, inslopes, and spillways appeared in good
condition, although snow cover limited inspection. The operator's representative explained that the
embankment outslope of the west pond was seeded before snow fall.
King II Pond - The pond was covered with snow, but appeared to not contain water. The pond
embankment, inslopes, and spillway structure appeared in good condition, although snow cover limited
inspection.
