The trees and shrubs together with approximately two feet on native soil will be removed using
excavators, loaders and dump trucks and stored in strategicly located nearby stockpiles.
Herbicides will be applied annually to control weed growth on the stockpiles, a weed control
plan will be implemented for the entire site (See Exhibit E) and will remain in effect during the
entire life of the mine.
Setbacks between the mining area and the permit boundary have been maintained to protect
the integrity of the adjoining land. The sand and gravel removal process will be conducted
using loaders, and /or excavators. Blasting of the resource is not necessary. Front end loader(s)
will transport the sand and gravel resource to a nearby crushing and screening area located
within the extraction area, or the haul trucks. The crushed and screened material will then be
loaded, transported and stockpiled according to size nearby, or hauled to a construction site
for use. Extraction of the sand and gravel resource will occur in two approximate equal lifts to
a point one foot above the underlying stony clay loam stratum.
TIMETABLE - Several factors affect the total life of most sand and gravel operations. Most
notable is the surrounding communities' future aggregate needs. Other factors include:
❑ Local, State, and Federal Economic Trends
❑ Future Local Growth Trends
❑ Major Public and Private Improvement Projects -
Highway Improvements
School Buildings
Governmental Buildings
❑ Major Commercial Buildings
A Based on the information presented herein, in conjunction with past aggregated needs in the
area, it is forecasted that the gravel will be depleted in about 25 years. It should be pointed
out; forecasts are based on current and past available information. Inherent with any forecast
is a degree of uncertainty.
2
