VEGETATION INFORMATION
EXHIBIT J
The vegetation community on the entire permit area is poorly vegetated dry rangeland. As seen
in the photos below, the permit area has very little vegetation. It is estimated that drought
resistant grasses have a ground cover of between 3% and 5% with small shrubs covering
approximately 2 %. As seen in the photos, little to no topsoil is available for salvage, so excess
fines from the operation will have additives such as fertilizer in order to make them suitable
soils for reclamation purposes to ensure successful reclamation. The primary woody plant
vegetation on site are yucca, rabbit brush, and sage. There are some tamarisk within the
drainages which exist on site. The vegetation on site has an average height of roughly 8 to 13
inches and provides roughly 65% total ground cover.
All vegetation communities can be seen on Map C -1 Pre - Mining Plan Map. Below are several
pictures which show the vegetation communities in the proximity of the permit area.
Approximately 0.5 acres of the permit area was mined before 1977 and no topsoil was salvaged
from this activity. Current vegetation in this area is very poor.
Picture 1: Typical Ground cover of poorly vegetated dry rangeland (looking north from near the
north side of the existing pit).
Picture 2: Previous mining area south of the existing pit now reclaimed as dry rangeland.
Korinek #1 Pit August 09 J -1
