SOILS INFORMATION <br />EXHIBIT I <br />A general soils report was conducted by the NRCS. Soil thicknesses are based on site <br />observations and the NRCS soil survey. Generally, there is not a substantial amount of topsoil <br />and overburden on the surface which can be salvaged. Approximate soil boundaries can be seen <br />on Map C -1. Soil descriptions for all of the soil types described below can be found in Appendix <br />a <br />Four NRCS soil mapping units occur within the general permit area and surrounding area. They <br />are listed below: <br />1) Cascajo, mapping unit Ca, occurs on slopes between 0 to 2 percent grade. The typical soil <br />profile consists of 5 inches of gravelly loam, 10 inches of very gravelly loamy sand or sandy <br />loam, and 45 inches of very gravely loamy sand and very gravelly sand. The taxonomic <br />classification is Sandy- skeletal, mixed, mesic Ustic Haplocalcids and is generally classified <br />as gravelly land. Casacajo is the primary soil type which occurs in the permit area. <br />1) Otero, mapping unit OtB, occurs on slopes between 0 to 2 percent grade. The typical soil <br />profile consists of 7 inches of sandy loam, 20 inches of fine sandy loam to sandy loam, and <br />33 inches of coarse sandy loam to loamy course sand. The taxonomic classification is coarse- <br />loamy, mixed, superactive, calcareous, mesic Aridic Ustorthents. Otero is the not very <br />present within the permit area, but it does occur in small amounts in the northern portion of <br />the permit and in the southeast corner of the permit area. <br />2) Bankard, mapping unit Bd, occurs on slopes between 0 to 2 percent grade near water <br />resources. The typical soil profile consists of 6 inches of loamy sand, and 54 inches of sand <br />to loamy fine sand. The taxonomic classification is sandy, mixed, mesic Ustic Torrifluvents <br />and is generally associated with wetlands. Bankard is not very present within the permit area, <br />but it does occur in small amounts in the southern portion of the permit area, although this <br />soil type will not be disturbed in the mining activities. <br />Korinek #1 Pit August 09 I -1 <br />
