October 2004 -22- 043 -2170
Golder observed the manufacturing and placement of CR including processing of FSB and cement
addition rate. Golder verified at the volumetric mixing truck outlet that the FSB met the gradation
specified and that cement was added at a minimum rate of 6 percent by dry weight. Cement addition
rates were tested at approximately one test per 300 tons.
4.2.1.2 Geogrid and Select Structural Fill
For remediation of laterals, Golder observed Ames excavating a minimum of 1 foot over the blasted
underground working area, and placing two layers of Tensar UX 1700 HS geogrid. The bottom layer
of geogrid was installed with 6 inches of SSF cover and compacted with a Caterpillar CS563 smooth
drum vibratory roller (SDVR), and the second layer of geogrid was installed transverse to the first.
Six inches of SSF was then placed and compacted.
4.2. Underdrains
Golder verified that the Secondary Underdrains (SU) were constructed as specified, that Ames placed
OF a minimum of 2 feet deep and 4 feet wide in the SU trenches. Golder verified that Ames removed
oversize and unsuitable material from the UF. Golder verified that Ames installed geotextile in the
underdrains, monitored geotextile overlap, and placed a minimum of 6 inches of SSF on the top of the
geotextile.
4.2..3 Leak Detection Trench
Golder verified that the Phase We LDT was a minimum of 1 foot wide by 1 foot deep, and that LDF,
geomembrane, g eotextile and pipe were installed as specified.
4.2.4 Subwade Preparation
Golder monitored subgrade preparation, including verification that Ames compacted the subgrade
with an SDVR. Golder verified that Ames removed protruding rocks from the subgrade surface prior
to SLF placement. Golder verified that the subgrade surface was moisture conditioned, smooth, and
unyielding prior to SLF placement.
is
La4117W,04 man- Qeemv<- ioaw4321IO Al241xOMPUWAM Golder Associates
