October 2 004 -21- 043 -2170
determined from oven -dried samples). The nuclear density value measured in the field was corrected
for coarse particles according to ASTM D4718. Laboratory tests yielded coefficients of permeability
for the CQA samples from 1.1 x 10 -8 cm/sec to 8.6 x 10 em/sec, all of which are less than the
specified maximum permeability of 1 x 10 cm/sec. The permeability test results for the SLF are
presented in Appendix 1 -3 and summarized in Table 10.
4.1.6 Bulk Specific Gravity
Golder conducted two bulk specific gravity tests of SLF at Golder's laboratory in Lakewood,
Colorado. Testing was performed in accordance with ASTM C 127 for performing rock corrections to
the Proctor compaction tests.
4.2 Field Testing and Monitoring
Golder observed all fill operations in the Phase We OSA to verify, when necessary, lift thickness,
adequate compaction, and acceptable moisture conditions. Holes made in the fill during testing were
backfilled and tamped with fine SLF. Golder standardized nuclear gauges at the start of each day's
0 work according to ASTM D2922.
4.2.1 Underground Workings
Golder monitored remediation of underground workings, including verification that excavations were
performed to minimum required dimensions, and that CP, CR, geogrid, SF, FSB, and SSF were
installed as specified.
4.2.1.1 Concrete Plug and Cemented Rockfill
Golder observed placement and testing of CP material used in construction of the Phase We OSA.
Golder observed and documented testing of approximately 1,604 cubic yards of concrete for slump,
air entrainment, temperature, placement time and compressive strength. Forty -three (43) tests were
performed on slump, and 40 tests were performed on compressive strength for a testing frequency of
approximately one test per 40 cubic yards. This exceeded the minimum specified testing frequency
of one test per every 50 cubic yards. All tests met compressive strength specification. The concrete
observation and test results are presented in Appendix H and summarized in Table 15.
1:% W% 217DW400XQM- QAMgVo-1004 %W2770.w01.1248&CcmPUVcdm Golder Associates
