October 2004 -15- 043 -2170
3.0 GEOSYNTHETI{CS INSTALLNUON
Geosynthetics installed in the Phase We OSA consisted of geotextile, geogrid, and geomembrane.
Twelve- ounce, non -woven geotextile manufactured by Amoco Fabrics and Fibers Company (Amoco)
of Austell, Georgia, was used to construct the Underdrain trenches of the Phase We OSA. Twelve-
ounce, non -woven geotextile manufactured by Amoco, 4 -inch PCPE piping, and 40 -mil smooth
LLDPE geomembrane manufactured by Poly -Flex of Grand Prairie, Texas were used to construct the
LDT for the Phase We OSA. The Phase We OSA composite liner system included 80 -mil
single -sided textured LLDPE geomembrane manufactured by Poly -Flex of Grand Prairie, Texas.
Geogrid manufactured by TENSAR was used in the remediation of select underground workings as
noted in Section 2.1.
3.1 Underdrains
Geosynthetics installation for the Secondary Underdrains (SU) was performed by Ames, and included
deployment of 12 -ounce non -woven geotextile. Ames installed approximately 17,500 square feet of
geotextile to construct the SU. Underdrain construction is discussed further in Section 2.2.
3.2 Leak Detection Trench
Ames installed 12 -ounce non -woven geotextile and 40 -mil smooth LLDPE geomembrane in the LDT
for the Phase We OSA. Ames installed approximately 33,000 square feet of geotextile and
19,680 square feet of geomembrane for the LDT. To construct the LDT, Ames placed a layer of
40 -mil smooth LLDPE geomembrane in the LDT, and laid geotextile over the geomembrane. After
piping and LDF were placed in the trench, the geotextile was wrapped around the fill with a minimum
1-foot overlap, as shown in Detail 1, IFC Drawing 14. Poly -Flex extrusion welded geomembrane
seams in the LDT. LDT construction is discussed further in Section 2.3.
3.3 Ore Storage Area
Geomembrane installation activities for the Phase We OSA included deployment and seaming of
80 -mil single -sided textured LLDPE geomembrane. Poly -Flex deployed 80 -mil single -sided textured
LLDPE geomembrane panels C -1 through C -811 (approximately 2,685,000 square feet, which
includes anchor trench and overlap). Geomembrane was placed on compacted and approved SLF as
f: nEt7otwootCeRQtVe .tooaWU2to.aootlCenPetveeoc Golder Associates
