August 2002 -14- 003 -2203
• 2.3 Leak Detection System
Ames constructed approximately 2,276 linear feet of LDT in the Phase IVa Area, at the location
shown in Record Drawing No. 4.
Drawing 14, Detail 1 shows a typical Leak Detection Trench Section. Ames excavated the
trench to minimum 1-foot by 1 -foot cross - sectional dimensions, and a minimum one percent
grade. Ames placed geosynthetics, 4 -inch diameter perforated corrugated polyethylene (PCPE)
pipe, and LDF in the trench. Ames placed approximately 84 cubic yards of LDF, 6,828 square
feet of 40-mil smooth Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) geomembrane, and
11,380 square feet of 12 -ounce non -woven geotextile in the LDT. The LDT geosynthetics
installation is discussed further in Section 3.2. Approximately 600 feet of LDT contained LDF
that did not meet project specifications. The LDF was removed and replaced with material that
met project specifications.
• 2.4 Site Grading
Prior to SF placement, Ames conditioned the surface of the fill. Golder monitored the
preparation of the subgrade and verified that it met project specifications.
Ames graded existing slopes and placed SF so that final slopes were no steeper than 2.5H:1V.
Prior to fill placement, the in -situ material was scarified to a depth of approximately 6 inches.
SF was compacted with a minimum of four passes of a smooth drum vibratory compactor.
Ames placed approximately 44I,000 cubic yards of SF for site grading.
•
1. wWM203% 1)400\catxtposo2\oo3220i .040004740mt.dm Golder Associates
