• §2.05 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING <br />ACTIVITIES -- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR OPERATION AND RECLAMATION <br />PLANS. <br />iv. Mulching Techniques <br />Straw mulch will not be applied to the irrigated field. It will only <br />be utilized on small areas that cannot be irrigated. <br />In the non - irrigated areas if any, straw mulch will be used to <br />provide surface protection and store moisture during the first <br />growing season. The application rate will be about 4,000 <br />pounds per acre. Only clean grain straw that is free of noxious <br />or problem weeds will be used. The straw will be anchored by <br />mechanical crimping. <br />V. Irrigation, if appropriate and pest and disease control <br />Irrigation is planned for the regraded and revegetated areas to <br />help establish and maintain plant growth consistent with the <br />postmining land use. One of more brass impact commercial <br />size sprinkler systems ( -3/4" nozzle) will be utilized. The brass <br />impact sprinkler(s) will be moved around the reclaimed area to <br />effectively irrigate the entire area. This type of irrigation system <br />will minimize erosion to the newly seeded area. <br />Weed Control <br />This weed control plan is concerned with the control of all <br />varieties of noxious weeds on the mine site. It was developed <br />in coordination with Webb Callicutt, Coordinator, Delta County <br />Noxious Weed Program. Noxious weeds of concern in the <br />general location of the Bowie No. 1 Mine permit area are; 1) <br />Russian knapweed, Musk, Canadian and Scotch thistle, <br />Houndstounge, Oxeye Daisy and Yellow toadflax. <br />Yellow toadflax can be sprayed anytime it is discovered. <br />Sprayed with Banvel, 1.5 oz/gal. <br />• <br />TR -51 2.05-26 10/09 <br />Appro ved <br />30 - /V0V'2009 <br />
